This is a guest post by Robby G who is a blogger from Shite I Like.com and even though his blog is quite young, he’s been interested, learning, and blogging for a couple of years now. On his blog he gives advice on a Boss-type lifestyle and has recently published a FREE Dating Advice eBook.
Many people view blogging almost like a personal journal published for the world to see. The problem that often arises with a blog though is actually getting it out there for the world to see. Now if you’re able to get it out there, many times it doesn’t even matter what you blog about, there are always people equally interested in the things you mention as you are.
You’re obviously reading this blog in order to learn how to get your blog read by others and hopefully make some money out of it. Something important to do to gain traffic isn’t just to publish a bunch of posts and use StumbleUpon or Facebook or Twitter, but also you must get out there and actually connect and participate. You must remember that blogs are a part of social media, so you must get involved and start guest posting on other blogs.
Isn't it nice to be a guest?
Why Guest Post?
First and foremost, guest posting gets your blog another backlink. If the blog you guest post on has a lot of traffic coming in, then chances are a lot of those constant visitors will read your post and visit your blog, raising your traffic right away. So if you know on which day your guest post will be published, make sure to put your best post forward and use that extra rush of traffic to your benefit. Be active that day and your main goal should be to convert those unique visitors into returning visitors, or better yet RSS Subscribers.
When to Guest Post?
Once you’ve had your blog going for a few months and have a sufficient amount of posts up that the new visitors can actually look through and believe that your style of writing is their cup o’ tea then they’ll come back. So make sure to have enough posts for them to evaluate your content on their own. When it comes to the actually day you want to guest post, in my experience, weekdays are the best. The ideal timing would be on a Monday afternoon, after the author of the blog has published their posts and your post will be up on the home page as long as possible.
How to Approach Bloggers to Guest Post?
The smaller your blog is, the more difficult it will be to find blogs to guest post on. There are ways around that though. There are places like BlogCatalog where there are people always looking for bloggers to guest post. Another way is to make friends with bigger bloggers on Facebook or Twitter and through simple chats you’re allowing yourself to become actual friends. So once you’ve got yourself a real relationship going, just ask if you could guest post on their blog… and it’s difficult to reject a friend from guest posting. Sometimes, simply asking the blogger through their Contact Page will do the trick too.
Overall, the more guest posts you’ve got out there, the more backlinks, the better it is for your blog. My final advice is, if someone asks you to guest post on their blog, and you’ve got the time to do it, go for it. It doesn’t matter how small their blog is right there and then, because tomorrow their blog might be the next big thing, and guess what, now whenever someone searches through their archives, you’re post along with your backlink will be there.
