Why Knowledge is Not Power

by Donny on November 12, 2009

It just occurred to me that I have been living by this saying my whole life that knowledge is power. Most people are taught this same defining principal from birth all the way up to adulthood. If you continue to live your life based upon this principal, your success will be very limited.

I was recently at this wealth empowerment seminar at New Birth Church in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the largest churches in the country, and I continued to listen as the speaker spoke, how our minds are taught to think a certain way and do a certain thing.

Many people seem to struggle about the fact that we were born with the mentality to keep going instead of standing still. What I mean by this, simply that by working the same job for 20 years, we will not satisfy our desires or ever achieve our purpose because we were not born on the principal of doing the same thing our entire life, but to consistently change to achieve our desired purpose or goal.

So if knowledge is not power, than what is it?

Applied knowledge is power. To know something is great, but if you don’t take action on that desired knowledge than it is useless to you. Most people know a lot about a particular thing, but fail to use it to their advantage and simply waste the amount of knowledge that they have.

That is why it is very important for you to quickly identify what you are good at or what you know very well and apply it either to a dream that you want to fulfill or by helping other people accomplish their dreams. By simply doing one of these two things, you will begin to understand your true purpose and start to see signs of success in your life.

You can literally be the smartest person in the world and be broke just because you didn’t apply that knowledge to something. So remember, knowledge is not power, but applied knowledge is!

Hey Donny, ah the knowledge myth! So true though, easy to sit back and think we have power due to our knowledge and keep watching TV and doing squat about it!

That’s a big misconception that people especially got after watching the movie ‘The Secret’, thinking that things will happen with wishful thinking.

Knowledge, vision and the law of attraction and all that good stuff only works with action.

Thanks for your consistent value that you share.

Right on the money as said above Donny. I’ve always said, book smarts (or any smarts) is useless if all you do is put the book back on the shelf – or keep the ebook on the HD as he case may be. ;)

Wow Donny,

This post gets right down to the point Donny. For example, a lot of Atlanta Ga Marketers will read books and posts and believe that they are Internet marketers. That is so far from the truth! If someone can’t turn their knowledge into results, my question is what’s the point?

Can’t agree more with you! There’s no use of knowledge if we keep it just to ourselves. Once we start applying and sharing(and marketing wise, selling!), it becomes the real power.

These are some very good points made all of the commentators. I like the value that is being added from these posts. I like hearing other people’s options about how they feel about certain things.

Good post Donny. You make some good points. It doesn’t matter how much you know, you need to be willing to take action.

Donny,

Great info here my friend. Some people
have SO much knowledge but they don’t
apply it.

Things happen when knowledge is applied,
otherwise known as ‘taking action’….

Thanks for the great share!

Hey Donny,

I just stumbled upon your site via Twitter — interesting how this post echoed my thoughts early today. Knowledge is only useful when it is applied to solving problems, and getting results. Otherwise, most of it is just distraction.

Wonderful blog, thanks for sharing! :)

What a great call to action! Like we discussed earlier today, too many people study study study and yet never take a step forward. At the end of the day its the step forward, not the studying that counts!
