The Transference of Credibility By Guest Posting

by Donny on November 23, 2009

I created this post because I wanted to share the power of doing guest posting. Just posting content on your blog is simply not enough because not everyoneguest-posting will get the opportunity to visit your blog.

By doing guest posts on other bloggers blogs, you expand your audience by leaps and bounds and you can build tons of new relationships that you would not have been able to capture with just your blog alone.

If you are just starting out with blogging, I would recommend that you find other small blogs within your industry to guest post on instead of trying to go after the elite bloggers first.

Anyone that has been following me as of late, I have had several high level bloggers posts my articles. Here are just a couple that you might have seen:

  1. Johnchow.com
  2. Quickonlinetips.com
  3. Winningtheweb.com

Not only did I get a swarm of new traffic from these posts, I also developed several new relationships with some of the other readers from the other blogs. Just by doing this, the credibility instantly was transferred to me because their readers have established a relationship with them and for them to post content on their blog from a third party means instant credibility for that guest poster.

Another great example of this is the podcast interview that Katie Frieling did on Yaro Starak’s blog. If anyone has not seen this interview, I definitely recommend you go over to his site and view it because she gives away very valuable information in it. After she did the interview, I watched her blogs’ compete.com traffic ranking for about a week. Checkout the graph below:

Her blog post was published on Aug. 28th

Her blog post was published on Aug. 28th

As you can see from the graph, her traffic went from 7,600 to 11,000 unique visitors. If you can’t see the value of doing guest posting, then I don’t know how I can convince you that it is really effective.

This might not be your normal scenario, unless you land a guest post on an authority blog like Yaro Starak. I don’t even want to know how many subscribers and followers alone that she got just from doing this interview.

Most people that were readers of Yaro’s blog probably never even heard of Katie Frieling until she did the guest post, I know that I didn’t and I follow the blogging industry on a daily basis.

Just by her doing this interview, I now read her blog and enjoy all of the quality content and information that she provides her readers. Hopefully everyone will begin to see the transference of credibility that you can obtain by doing guest posts on other blogs.

Hey Donny,

This is such a great topic because I think that guest posting is a terrific way to get your name out there. I agree that there is such an enormous group of people who may never know who you are unless you get your brand in front of them, and what better way than guest posting.

I’ve been considering doing some guest posting myself, and I think that I may go ahead and do it now. So thank you for bringing it to my attention :)

Hi Donny,

Instant credibility is one of the primary benefits of guest posting, especially when your content makes it on a high traffic blog. Combine that with visibility and you have a powerful combination which will help you form new relationships while simultaneously building your list.

Perhaps you can share your strategy of how you approach other bloggers to get your content syndicated on their blogs? That would make for a great follow up post to this one.

All true my friend, and something I’m really going to step up on in the new year.

Seeing as most people don’t engage in it because they fear they are giving up premium content, the flip side should be that all guest posters should point their regular readers TO the guest post…this is good for both sides.

Hi Donny,

This is a great point, one that I hadn’t really considered before reading your post. It takes the whole concept on content syndication to an entirely new level and is a great tip.

Don’t you just love working in an industry that encourages and rewards a spirit of cooperation? It’s such a fresh and uplifting approach to those of us who have had experience in Corporate America.

Your blog is awesome. I’m looking forward to spending more time reading your content. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Yeah there is no doubt that guest posting is one of the smartest ways of getting new visitors and long term readers to your blog. One bit of advice I would give you would be to write your very best content for other blogs when you guest post rather than saving it all up for yourself. IF you are going to be having your work seen by lots of other readers who might pop over to your site then you really want it to be your best stuff and not just something quick you send over to them.

Hi Donny!

I just learned about guest posting from the webinar last night.

I'm definitely making plans to do just that really soon. I have some bloggers in mind and excited to make the approach.

Thanks for sharing this, Donny!

Hey Donny,

I felt like I just hit a “gold mine” of information by reading just a few of these posts on your site. Not only do I feel much better informed about what I may or may not having been doing correctly, but I have found a new “source” to tap in to for reliable information.

As a newbie, all the various tasks that need to be undertaken to even have a remote possibility of improving my page ranking had been somewhat of a mystery to me while I've stumbled through the maze of information that I've encountered .

You've clearly and succinctly communicated some of what I now understand to be “must dos” as well as the more subtle nuances of blogging… tips that I hadn't even thought of!

Thanks alot Donny… I'm a new subscriber to your blog NOW!

All the Best,
Chris

Donny… as usual, LOTS of QUALITY info on your blog.

This is definitely something I want to invest some time doing because I can see the immediate benefits that can be derived from any association of this kind.

I enjoyed your article on guest blogging. As a newbie in internet marketing, I just read that we should guest blog on those sites that allow a link back to our websites/blogs. Would you agree with that person's opinion?
