The number of people actually browsing the Internet from their mobile phones is continuously rising.
People like to be in touch with their friends, reading fresh and crispy news on their favorite blogs, browsing news sites, technology updates, reading about new products, etc.
So if you are one of those who care about traffic and ROI, then you should make your blog mobile ready today, because:
- The number of visitors to your site will increase
- You will give access to a much larger/diverse audience
- Eventually, your profits will rise, because people comparison shop during their coffee break using their mobile phones, and then complete the shopping process back at home from their laptops.
Statistics show that 3% of the incoming traffic for more than 40% of the blogs out there is directly from mobile phone internet connections. As time passes by, and new applications and specially optimized browsers hit the market, the traffic coming from mobile phones will be even greater.
The best way to “mobilize” your blog? Read along to find out.
You can still choose old-style blog customizing
If you do not want to spend a penny for elaborate programs that will help you customize your blog for mobiles in 3 steps, then you can focus on the old style method. What does this imply?
A few important points:
- You must bring the page size down to 16KB or less.
- Improve navigation options by adding several links- down the page, up the page just add links that will make the life of mobile browsers easier(place links that redirect to the bottom or to the upper page). These links will help them skip intro, front page menus, and avoid scrolling.
- Place the images with compression ratios (such as thumbnails for instance); and the fewer the images you actually upload to your blog, the easier your page will load on a mobile platform
- Keep in mind that not all mobile phone platforms support good old Javascript. If you want a diverse mobile audience to your page, avoid implementing Javascript apps.
New Style optimizing- add themes, applications and plugins for a perfectly mobile optimized webpage

The extra additions to your blog’s admin panel will work wonders. They will simply make your blog mobile-friendly, so that visitors using their mobile devices will enjoy reading and browsing your page, and not see just distorted images and text (as happens with pages viewed on mobile devices that are not properly optimized).
You should go for the WPTouch Pro plugin, which is highly compatible with devices such as iPhones, Android, Palm, BlackBerry and even iPod Touch. Benefits?
- On a mobile device your webpage will be displayed wonderfully, with crystal clear images (thanks to the automatic image scaling)
- The text content on the page will be sliced up nicely, and users can read the entire content by pressing “Load More..”. Instead of cramping an illegible wall of text on the screen of a mobile device, users will now have the option to read nicely everything.
- The videos embedded in your site will be resized as well, so that mobile users can watch it with a good resolution.
Another very good plugin for your WordPress blog or site is the WP Mobile edition pack, which will help you build your site in such a way that when mobile users come to your site, they will view the page in the right format.

I tried WP Touch but it didn’t work well for me? Will try it again just to see if it works this time or not.
It does not work on some Wordpress themes right now, they are currently trying to update the Pro version to make it compatible.
