Every person needs to earn bread and butter to live the difficult life in this world. However, the way of earning and profession changes from region to region and from person to person.

All it takes to monitor is the mindset of the concerned person who is willing to engage him in anything which fetches money in the future. It is needless to say that self employed people have many differences from the business owners that are versatile and have their unique mindset to run the enterprise.

When getting advice becomes typical and complicated for the person, he starts looking for the small business in the locality.

Self employed people

These are the persons who prefer to get employed in some firms, business and companies all over the world to earn on monthly basis. They get their jobs on their educational qualifications and their personal skills.

They have also to work according to their interest and also according to the demand of the business where they are employed. In other words, if you are a self employed person in some business it becomes rather essential to set your mindset to a particular level.

Let us take an example of lawyer, doctor or a job person. He will earn according to his own output which he gives to the company or firm.

Business or enterprise owner

The person who has some investment money or budget to get his business started will prefer to become an entrepreneur. No doubt, this field demands more money, extra management, large number of employees and obviously, you will have to get your business run all the times.

We should definitely look for differences that in fact, underline the self employed and business pursuits.

Differences

  • The biggest difference lies in the mindset of a self employed or business owner. The business person will always have to design some systems and bring them back into action for benefits. But the self employed people should get along with the interests of the company or enterprise where he is employed.
  • The business person can get income right sitting in the comfort of his home. On the other hand, job seekers or job persons will have to do work in the office or field in order to earn his livelihood.
  • The self employed people would have to tap the opportunities so that he can get the best job in place. Since the companies and business firms always like to get their vacancies fulfilled at any cost, they will like the experts and educated people to get maximum benefits. But the business owners have to frame different strategies should follow the smart tips and they must try to invest in various fields to get massive returns.
  • The business owners should also think about the marketing campaign and promotion of their new schemes, products and services so that consumers can know about their offers. On the other hand, the self employed should look into their inherent capabilities and duties. In this way, both these segments represent quite different principles, tasks and management of time & money.

Handling time and money should be the sole aim of business owners. They have got a different mindset as compared to self employed persons. Self employed people always have to harvest the numerous opportunities leaving which they will have to starve!

Donny,

Although the idea of self employment and business ownership being two separate entities has been grossly promoted to the masses, I totally disagree with the philosophy. I disagree because self employed individuals ARE business owners regardless of mindset. All one has to do is ask the IRS!

Just because a self employed business owner is unaware of his legal business status (e.g. sole proprietor, partner, or LLC member) or chooses to remain a small operation doesn’t mean that an operating entity doesn’t exist. Nor does it eliminate the fact that the IRS will treat a self employed business owner like any other business enterprise. They’re not going to look at a self employed individual and consider him/her to not be a business owner just because they’re the only person running or in the business. That’s not going to happen!

The differences that separate an employee from a business owner/self employed individual are very defined. And becomes even more apparent as one starts to learn more about the fundamentals that affect his/her business operations. Personally, I believe that it’s negligent for any self employed individual to adopt the mentality that they’re not really a business owner or entrepreneur because they choose to remain small or a one-man or -woman shop.

A business, regardless of size, is a commercial enterprise. And a commercial enterprise is any activity one engages in that involves the trade of goods and/or services in exchange for monetary or like compensation. Self employed operations are commercial enterprises. The regulations governing business are so defined that even illegal businesses are required to pay taxes! There’s even an IRS form for such business owners to fill out. Imagine that!

And guess what? Illegal businesses also have a legal business entity even if the owner is unaware that it exists. Because illegal enterprises are usually unincorporated, they’re considered to be sole proprietorships or partnerships by default. So, you see, no business owner is spared! Legal or illegal. One-man shop or big corporation. It really doesn’t matter. They will all be treated against the same fundamentals in the end.

Additionally, many of the same activities required of big business is required of self employed business owners. For example, marketing, office administration, financial management, funding, branding, human resources, and taxation are all examples of business fundamentals that affect a business owner regardless of size.
